Singer Says She Hasn’t Shown Judges Her Best, But Even Simon Leaps To His Feet When She’s Done

Yoli Mayor had one of the most memorable auditions on this season of America’s Got Talent, as it first seemed that she wouldn’t make it through to the next round.
The 21-year-old singer took the stage wearing a fancy gown, jewelry, and hairstyle that Simon said didn’t suit her. She also started singing a song (“I Put a Spell on You”) that Simon felt wasn’t the right fit for her young age.
Luckily, Tyra Banks stepped in to help Yoli transform. When Yoli started again with an Ed Sheeran song more appropriate for her vibe, she blew the audience and the judges away, eventually making it through to the next round.
On the July 25, 2017, “Judge Cuts” episode, Yoli returned to the America’s Got Talent stage to give her next performance.
This time, Yoli chose a song that was perfectly suited to her incredible pipes. The Miami singer performed Rihanna’s “Love on the Brain,” hitting every high note effortlessly and showcasing just how strong a singer she is.
In the end, Yoli received a standing ovation from all five judges and the audience. Unsurprisingly, Yoli was named one of the seven acts making it through to the live rounds. She was also given some of the most glowing compliments I’ve heard from the judges all season.
Heidi called her “one of the best, if not the best” singers they’ve had this year. Guest judge DJ Khaled even tried to slam on his Golden Buzzer again (after using it earlier in the night for Chase Goehing), but told Yoli that she didn’t even need the buzzer. Simon suggested that Yoli doesn’t know what she’s capable of yet, and guessed that she will keep getting better and better as the weeks go by.
Do you agree with the judges about Yoli?
