According to Disney, Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War made an estimated $630 million for its opening weekend at the worldwide box office, beating The Fate of the Furious ($542 million) for the highest-grossing openings. The star-studded superhero movie also earned $250 million in North America, ahead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens with $248 million. With Infinity Wars’ record-breaking debut, Marvel’s 19 titles got $15 billion to date. The international opening of $380 million doesn’t include China, the world’s second largest movie market. The film will hit the theatres there on May 11. Variety reports that Infinity War opened at No.1 in all territories, including United Kingdom with $42.2 million, Korea $39.2 million, Mexico $25.5 million and Australia with $23 million. The Marvel movie is the sequel to 2012’s The Avengers and 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. It brings together more than 20 superheroes such as Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther, Chris Evans’ Captain America, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr. Strange, and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow. “Disney masterfully combined all of the separate elements of the Marvel brand and brought them together in an enormous and irresistible epic popcorn movie,” Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at comScore told CNN.
