“GAME OF THRONES” AND “SNL” WIN BIG AT CREATIVE ARTS EMMY AWARDS

The Prime time Emmy award ceremony isn’t taking place until September 17, but that didn’t stop the creative masterminds behind our favorite TV shows from scoring big wins ahead of time.
Creative Arts Emmy Awards took place over the course of two nights this weekend, and Game of Thrones and Saturday Night Live went home with seven prizes each.
HBO epic series took the throne thanks to winning several technical awards, but some of the victories made by SNL carried more weight. Tiffany Haddish collected an award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for hosting one of the most memorable episodes last season.
Emmy voters also expressed their admiration for the late Anthony Bourdain by giving five shinny statues to his CNN show Parts Unknown. TV special Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert also collected five awards, including the one for Outstanding Variety Special (Live).
African-American actors made history at this year’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards by sweeping guest star categories. Tiffany Haddish wasn’t the only one to walk away with an award in her hands at the end of the night. Katt Williams (Atlanta), Ron Cephas Jones (This Is Us) and Samira Wiley (The Handmaid’s Tale) also came out victorious.
HBO and Netflix went head to head at this year’s ceremony, but premium cable network took the lead with the total of 17 wins. Netflix had only one less, but managed to beat its competitors in most of the major categories, including Outstanding Structured Reality Program (Queer Eye), Outstanding Television Movie (Black Mirror: USS Callister) and Outstanding Variety Special (Dave Chappelle: Equanimity).
